Shoebox Team
For many years the residents of Long Marston have joined together to send shoeboxes of goodies to under privileged children in other countries. In 2016 we decided to send our boxes through the Teams4U organisation based in Evesham and continue to do so.
Throughout the year the Shoebox Team collect suitable items and store them in their own homes. In November we put everything in the Village Hall and invite Villagers to come along and pack the boxes. We aim to send around 300 boxes in time for Christmas (one year under Mary Shaw’s guidance we sent 600!).
The kind of items needed are small toys, hats, scarves, gloves, soap, flannels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, pencils, pens etc, paper, notebooks, sweets and anything that can be fitted in a shoebox that a child would enjoy.
We also try to pack a few Family and Baby boxes.
We hold fundraisers during the year to pay for transport and to buy things that have not been donated, but are needed.
The Shoebox Team consists of Diana Rippin, Nina Drummings, June Beasley, Ann Harrison, Dick Shaw, Diana Hodges, Lyn Manning, Barbara Farrell and Wendy Jay. We always welcome new team members.
We meet 2 or 3 times a year to discuss the contents of boxes and fundraising events.
For more information or to join the team email Diana Rippin.
